MANDAZI RECIPE

Have you always wondered how to make soft mandazi or why your mandazis aren’t as soft as you’d like them to be? I used to have this problem and it would give me such a heartbreak when they don’t come out the way you want it to. These days my dad almost prefers my cooking to mum’s. But, worry not! I’ve got you covered.

It’s simpler than you think. Remember it’s you cooking the food and not the food cooking you. You in control of how your food will taste. Do you want it soft or crunchy? If so how do I go about it? And that’s where I (Marina’s Escapade) comes in.


Here,s what we’ll need :

INGREDIENTS:

3 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cardamom(iliki)
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup warm milk
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 egg


PROCEDURE:

Mix all dry the dry ingredients in a bowl then add the melted butter followed by warm milk kneading it to form a not so sticky dough.
Add the egg last then knead your dough for about 10 minutes until the texture is just right.
Next, we will roll our dough on a floured surface to about 1cm in thickness.
Cut out your desired shapes then cover them with a damp cloth.
Put some oil in a deep pan and heat it.
In order to know whether your oil is hot enough? Dip a wooden spoon in the oil, it will form bubbles around it.
Carefully put in the cut dough shapes one at a time. Fry each side until its golden brown in color and set aside to cool.
If the oil is too hot such that your mandazis are burning before they are cooked inside, reduce the heat.

Serve with tea or your preferred choice of beverage. Your gonna wish you were on an empty stomach for this  
