Now, most of you have heard me just talk about aloe vera and its benefits and you must think that I have never taken it into action/ consideration. Well, you might be wrong so hold that thought. For the past two years, that’s 2019 through 2020, my skin was pathetic! Heck, I think it’s safe for me to use the word ugly. My skin was not one you would want to look at for a second too long.

Let me try and explain this visually for you to understand. My skin had dark and light patches and with time it started drying out, even when I used moisturizer, any moisturizer. It was so bad that with time, it started turning black and cracking, so dry I couldn’t even smile. This was a devastating time. It was actually embarrassing to look at myself in the mirror. No amount of makeup would hide how bad it was. Ok, now there’s a good ending to the story.

So I didn’t think I would ever say this, but thanks to the pandemic, I discovered aloe. My parents have a garden where they, and I included plant all sorts of herbs and spices and other different plants and aloe was one of them. So I decided why not give it a try. I am going to give different recipes for different related skin problems so, I hope it helps.

For starters:

  • Just take an aloe vera leaf and cut a small piece.
  • Cut off the sharp edges and remove the topmost layer.
  • Then take the side that has the gel and rub it on your face, all around.
  • Keep cutting very thin slices from the gel until it’s all finished.
  • Do this every morning, make it your daily routine. Trust me, your skin will thank you.

How to make aloe vera gel you ask?

There are two ways to this. Pick your hard.

Method 1

Just scoop out the gel from the leaf, into a bowl and whip it until it’s smooth enough to use. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Method 2

  • Cut off some leaves from the aloe vera plant. Then put the leaves in an upright position for a few minutes to let the darker resin (the sticky thin transparent running gel) drain out.
  • After the resin has drained, then wash the leaves and peel off the thick skin with a knife, leaving you with the transparent gel or you can scoop the gel from leaves with a spoon.
  • Then place the gel in a blender and also add a few drops of vitamin E oil or some essential oil to boost the power of aloe vera gel. Essential oils like lavender essential oil, or mint essential oil are good for the skin.
